I live and work in the Cowichan Region, and have spent the last 5 years driving community engagement and action initiatives, speaking with hundreds in North Cowichan about concerns with our local water, renewable energy, local food, housing and democracy. We’ve shared hopes and dreams, times of frustration, celebrated together and worked hard to encourage more community participation.
As a community facilitator, I bring people together and host respectful discussions that allow for collaboration, new ideas and interactive decision making. I am excited for the opportunity to bring these skills to the Council table and to work with whomever else may be elected.
As a member of the Environment Advisory Committee, I understand how decisions are made at the municipal level. I am looking forward to the municipality re-evaluating the Official Community Plan over the next term and know how important it will be for everyone to participate in that process while keeping in mind recommendations from the Climate Energy and Action Plan.
Why I'm Running
My goal in running for North Cowichan Council is to listen to different opinions, ask questions and make good decisions that will benefit as many different people in our communities as possible. I believe we need to plan for an ever changing climate to keep our neighbourhoods healthy, vibrant, safe and resilient.
While the world can feel divided, at the end of the day, we are all neighbours. I want to work hard to find common ground and make good decisions based on that. We need to listen to each other on all sides.
I have a strong understanding of my values, which include keeping an open mind to listen to and understand opinions that might be different from my own.
